Leopard!

Before I forget and it gets lost in the cloud of pictures, I wanted to put this up, from the trek.

We were walking up out of a bamboo forest, and into a Rhododendron forest, at an altitude of about 13,000 feet (if I recall correctly–it might have been a bit lower and I wouldn’t like to misrepresent the range of the critter), when I saw these prints in the mud.

I asked the guide if it was from a leopard, but he said, no, it’s from a dog that’s running, so his claws didn’t strike. But I second guessed him, since they look so much like kitty prints, and snapped this picture.

Word from a friend in the wildlife conservation biz (and a colleague-of-the-friend) is that indeed it is a leopard.

Cool. In my book.

… and more to the point, absolutely delighted! This place is really cool. So many first impressions.

After a long first day, we are super tired. More later (maybe little later, maybe a bit more later). For now: Tired.

In our room at the Hotel Tibet. Great place.

…Nepal, and our attempts to learn a thing or two about the place before we plunge into it!

I mean, holy cow, it’s been bubbling to the top of the news an awful lot lately, huh? There’s some great pictures coming out of there (I hope we’ll get a chance to meet this photographer).

There is so, so much to learn about the place, the people, the economic and social situation. We’ve been around a bit, but this will be our first trip to Asia–unless you count the east bank of the Bosphorus in Turkey, which technically is Asia, but you know…

There are a lot of resources, and we’re trying to squeeze in as much research as we can. We hope this blog will help us to get and keep a little bit of research under our belts.

We hope folks will respond, too, with book/article recommendations, referrals and contacts and questions–it’s all going to help us do our job better!

…being a husband and wife documentary team. Amy and I have been working together as storytellers since she came to join me in Romania during the summer of 2003.

It’s been full time for both of us since 2005 when she left a 10-year career as a teacher and we formed nonfiction media and NonFiction Weddings .

Every day we are grateful for the chance to work together, doing something we love so much. But it’s definitely an ongoing process, our figuring out what our jobs are and how to do them together and separately.
