Tried Google, it was ugly! Waiting on Vimeo

I don’t know why the google video version we uploaded looked so crummy. Took it down. Probably should go through a different encode to optimize the file for them. We’re not sure how important that is just yet, and are hoping Vimeo will get their act together.
At least now they seem to have some acknowledgement that the thing’s busted. Wish us luck. Crummy timing for Vimeo’s service to go down, but it is a free service, so we’re mostly not getting too pissy about it.

I’ve had similar results with Google Video–let me know if you find out the secret to making videos not look dreadful there…
I was just about to recommend smugmug’s (pay to play) video capabilities: http://blogs.smugmug.com/don/2008/04/25/i-demand-video-to-be-awesome/ but they seem to be having technical difficulties right now too!
Amazon is the root of the smugmug problem right now, so maybe vimeo is in the same boat.

Yep, it’s an Amazon thing. Saw this here:

The whole big ‘cloud’ thing had been pretty invisible to me until now. Seems like an unfortunate by product of that kind of service that the only time folks see it is when it’s busy failing them.
