Fun Starts Here (Or: First Things First)

So, all the LSF trekkers have departed and we spent the day getting settled into our new, bigger hotel room.

Well, that’s not exactly right; first we had a great meeting over at the LSF offices. Ramesh and Nutan are the amazing ‘ground crew’ here in Kathmandu, the very spine of the organization. Amy’s already talked about how remarkably competent and capable these two are.

Our goal with the meeting was manifold.

This is the first time we’ve had to talk with the org since the Cultural Show, which was a huge focus/highlight of the organization’s year–that means the first time since we’ve been here that they haven’t been pretty absorbed by bringing the event off.

Also we wanted to just sort of talk over the logistics of ‘casting’ our documentary. Our general plan is to identify and focus on three or four LSF girls. Quite naturally of course, among them the girls we focus on will embody several main facets of the story of the organization and its positive effects on girls and education here in Nepal. So how do we go about identifying the girls we’ll be following to class, and home, etc.?

And finally we wanted to solicit their ideas about how we might best ought to find and tell the story of the organization. We have ideas of course, but have been eagerly awaiting time when we might ask the experts theirs.

It was a good meeting, and we feel like we made some real progress. Friendly, with lots of the kind of meaningful smiles that we always think means ‘Yes, I’m getting you…’ –From both sides. This definitely feels like a good sign.

More to the point, the more we talk with these folks, the more we believe in the Little Sisters Fund. They just keep coming up with great stories/examples of ways in which the organization is different and remarkable.

At this point (not to jinx it, of course, and touch a bit of wood), we’re feeling like we’d have to suck at our jobs pretty badly NOT to make a great movie about the Little Sisters Fund. Talk to me on that one in a week or so, though, huh? (And in the mean time, wish us luck!)
