Where to end and begin?

The trek is over. We are back in Kathmandu at Hotel Tibet and the Himalaya Mountains already feel like they didn’t really happen. I so badly wanted a shower, coffee, a toilet and a bed a week ago and already I am taking these things for granted. Well, except for the toilet.

The trek is an experience that I think will take quite awhile to really process. We have looked through all the pictures as well as some of the footage. Now we need to put it all together to tell the story. I think then we will be able to put together all that we have gained, grown from walking up and down for so many days.

The following I know to be true.

1. I CAN be an ‘outdoor girl’ when I have to be and even sort of like it.

2. I LOVE mountains and don’t really need to climb them to bond with them.

3. I CAN go poop without privacy with practice.

4.I CAN walk a really long way without feeling like complaining.  Hiking feels less like exercise when in Nepal. I could walk for a very long time here just peaking through windows, stopping to talk to the people feeding baby goats, working the land, or selling the stuff they carry on their backs.

5. Sherpa ARE really that cool and there is no way I could have made it up and down Mera Peak without them.

This is Tashi. We love her. She lived a tea house we camped behind.

Scott took this up at the tippy top of Mera Peak. From left to right: Trevor, the founder of LSF, Dendi Sherpa, Karma Sherpa, Jack and Phil (LSF sponsors).

My new favorite hobby.

Our tents at High Camp at about 19,000 feet. We set out to summit just a few hours after we took this photo.

Our fellow trekkers left today. It was a sad, but sweet goodbye. We have been with them through thick and thin over the last three weeks and now it is just me and Scott. We took the afternoon to quietly shift into the next chapter– The Little Sisters Documentary. We have pages of idea notes from our hours spent hiding from the rain in our tent.  Tomorrow we meet with Ramesh and Newtan. They run the Little Sisters Fund office and are going to be our fixer and translator. We adore them already and are excited about working with them. They clearly love the girls and are excited about what we are here to do. We click with them. We click with them really good.

Stay tuned for photos of the Little Sisters performing at the Cultural Show yesterday. These girls… are so lovable. It was a tough event to photograph and film, but we were pretty much grinning ear to ear the whole time. These girls… are SO strong, so amazing, so cute. I couldn’t get enough of them.
